About
Domaine le Mezo

THE STORY of a transformation

Having fallen in love with Mezo upon its discovery in 2019, Marie and Sébastien are the two founders of Domaine Le Mezo. To acquire and restore this remarkable site, they have gathered remarkable partners and companions who are committed to enhancing this heritage. After more than two years of work, the transformation of Mezo allows this exceptional place to come back to life.

Tracing back in history, Domaine Le Mezo dates back to the 15th century. The château was built in the second half of the 18th century on the site of an old manor mentioned since 1427. Then, the outbuildings, the shed, and the greenhouse appeared in history from the second half of the 19th century. All of this historical heritage has been adapted to its time, to continue its journey through the centuries.

HIGHLIGHTING HERITAGE

conserving the memory

A PRESERVED AND ENHANCED HISTORICAL HERITAGE

The first traces of the buildings at Domaine Le Mezo date back to the 15th century. It is a historical heritage that we have preserved and enhanced. The Château, its cornice, moldings, and frescoes, the stables and the barn, with their stones, openings, and exposed beams… All the buildings have been renovated to restore their former splendor. We will be their custodians, preserving the memories of the past, the memory of history and life.

metamorphosis from one century to another

A PROJECT IN LINE WITH TODAY'S CHALLENGES

The Mezo transformation project and the renovations carried out have truly been marked by today’s challenges. The project took root in the turmoil of a health crisis, where the desire for nature, reunion, and local escape was felt. But above all, it was driven by the necessity of collective commitment to the climate and biodiversity conservation. We want to anchor Mezo in this new era, with new challenges.

CONVIVIALITY & SHARING

Collectively ours

AN OPEN AND COLLECTIVELY CREATED LIVING SPACE

To come to life, the Mezo project has been supported and made possible thanks to the participation of numerous public and private actors, as well as the human support of family and collaborators. We can be proud of the challenges we have overcome and the collective result achieved: a convivial living space, open to the world and teeming with life.

Opening up and discovering

MOMENTS OF LIFE TO SHARE

Gathering. Sharing stories. Remembering. Helping. Supporting each other. Loving. Appreciating. Marveling. Mezo is all of this at once. A place to share happy and warm moments. A place to work together and build the future. A place to open up to others, to living beings, and to oneself. It is also a place to try new practices and perhaps discover new passions or ambitions.

NATURE

NATURE & RESPECT

Nature prevails

ABUNDANT FAUNA AND FLORA

Located in the heart of the Gulf of Morbihan Regional Natural Park, Domaine Le Mezo is rich in nature. We have given it a central place and will always take great interest in it. The English-style park and the forest of century-old trees, where one can walk, relax, witness the growth and flourishing of numerous plant and animal species. The orchard and vegetable garden for seasonal harvests “Made In Le Mezo.” But observing and enjoying is not enough! We must maintain and develop this reservoir of biodiversity. Therefore, we have undertaken and will continue to undertake actions to serve this purpose.

Committing and engaging

CONCRETE ACTIONS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

We are genuinely concerned about the impact of our activities on biodiversity and the local environment. During the renovations, we ensured the use of the best materials, thermal and acoustic insulation, and the installation of an autonomous energy heating system through on-site fuel production (miscanthus), with the support of ADEME. We are in the process of obtaining the label for the Domaine. Additionally, we will engage every guest and participant to respect the surrounding biodiversity and act responsibly during their stays and events.

OUR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS

We want to contribute to the dynamics of our beautiful region, its inhabitants, artisans, and workers. We are aware of the impact of Domaine Le Mezo’s activity on the environment and are resolutely committed to limiting it. That is why Mezo and its teams are committed to sustainable tourism and leisure activities, in line with the local challenges and in direct collaboration with local partners.

LE MEZO
in action

  • Support from ADEME for the implementation of the heating network with boilers fueled by wood chips (local supply chain).
  • Solar panels on parking shelters for self-consumption of electricity.
  • Planting and harvesting of miscanthus for plant and vegetable garden mulching, building heating, and erosion control.
  • Preservation of a maximum number of plants during construction, introduction of new adapted plant species, installation of beehives for pollination, and niches and ladders for hedgehogs.
  • Biodiversity directory, documenting the fauna and flora of Mezo to monitor its evolution each year and better protect it.
  • Renovation carried out by a fantastic team of building experts, craftsmen, and local service providers to restore this historical heritage.
  • Permanent employment of a team of 20 people with appropriate compensation to support their livelihood and the well-being of Mezo.
  • Application for obtaining the European Ecolabel (ongoing process).
  • Creation of a refuge and feeding zone (Nova Flore), with a blend of 24 species of wildflowers selected for their ability to attract beneficial insects such as beetles, including ladybugs, flies like hoverflies, and parasitic wasps and other lacewings. These beneficial insects play a particularly important role in pest control and maintaining biological balance.
